St. Ambrose earned its first conference wins as part of the CCAC by defeating Calumet St. Joseph and Purdue Calumet Sunday in Hammond, Ind.

The wins move the Bees to 5-14 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

SAU swept all nine matches in the win over Calumet St. Joseph. Bart Van Rooijen and Dave Smith claimed an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles while the No. 2 team of Mitchell Schumacher and Kevin Beckett won 8-2. The No. 3 team of Jake Anderson and Dylan Fairbairn won by forfeit.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets with Van Rooijen leading the way with his 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1. Schumacher (No. 2), Smith (No. 3), Anderson (No. 4) and Colin Stiefer (No. 5) each surrendered just four games in their wins. Tony Houston won by forfeit at No. 6 singles.

Also that day, St. Ambrose defeated Purdue Calumet 7-2.

The top two doubles teams again came away with wins. Van Rooijen and Smith earned an 8-6 victory while Schumacher and Beckett won 8-2.

SAU then took five of the six singles matches. Smith posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3, and Anderson and Stiefer won by identical 6-3, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively. Van Rooijen and Schumacher completed the win with straight-set decisions in the top two spots.

The Bees will visit Augustana Tuesday at 4 p.m. before beginning the CCAC Tournament with quarterfinal action Tuesday, Apr. 26.
