Bart Van Rooijen picked up two early wins as St. Ambrose played two duals as part of its fall schedule.

Van Rooijen, playing No. 1 singles for the Bees, used two tiebreakers to get past Jason Derby of Loras, 7-6, 7-6, last Thursday at home. He moved to 2-0 in the fall with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Jordan Feige of Grand View Wednesday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

Unfortuately, SAU dropped both duals - 8-1 to Loras and 7-2 to Grand View - to fall to 0-2 on the year.

Colin Stiefer picked up the Bees' other win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles against GVU.

Stiefer nearly matched Van Rooijen with a second win but fell 10-6 in a third-set super-tiebreaker in the Loras dual.

Stiefer and Dan DaLuga fell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles to the Duhawks, while Van Rooijen and Michael Allee lost 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Allee also dropped a tight 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 4 singles.

Van Rooijen paired with DaLuga at No. 1 doubles against the Vikings and lost 9-7. Bradley Wheeler was defeated 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

St. Ambrose is now off until February when the Bees will host Central on Feb. 4 at the Quad City Tennis Club.
