St. Ambrose won two of the three doubles matches but could only come up with a pair of singles victories in a tough 5-4 loss at Loras Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops the Bees to 2-2 this fall.

Things started well with the No. 1 doubles team of Griffin Rasche and Alex Horton pulling out an 8-6 win. The No. 3 team of Mary Alice Oswalt and Shannon McEachern earned an 8-4 win.

The Bees nearly had the sweep in doubles but Sammy Carr and Nikki Steiner fell 9-7.

That was one of two heartbreaking losses for Steiner. After winning the first set 6-4, she lost her match at No. 5 singles in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-7.

Rasche was the lone Bee to get two wins, getting a straight sets 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.

Shannon Shovlain got the other SAU win, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

St. Ambrose will next visit Dubuque at 4 p.m. on Oct. 4.
