Both men's and women's Varsity squads enjoyed successful stints at the Eagles Baker Challenge this past weekend in Addison, Ill., with both squads reaching the semifinals before falling.

The women qualified in second place, advancing to the eight-team bracket round. There, they knocked off No. 7 seed Grand View 3-1, advancing to meet No. 3 seed St. Francis (Ill.), where they lost 3-1. Mount Mercy topped St. Francis 3-0 to win the title. The women's team was composed of Katie Maher, Miranda Rodriguez, Kayla Crawford, Kayla Ewing, Michaela Kelly, Hayley Ryan, Kaitlyn Keith and Brittany Breedlove.

Meanwhile, the men enjoyed a dazzling Saturday by leading the 20-team field into Sunday's baker games. There, they slid into third place heading into the baker finals. As the No. 3 seed, they knocked off the No. 6 seed St. Francis (Ill.) 3-1 in the best-of-5 match. That set up a meeting with Calumet College of St Joseph, where St. Ambrose fell in an exciting match 3-2. Calumet went on to defeat top-seeded and host Robert Morris University-Illinois 3-2 in the championship match. Men's team members were Kyle Krol, Anthony Dodge, Russell Deer, Brent Boho, Alex Denton, Brenden Sramek, Billy Hibbard and Jonathan Labrador.

The St. Ambrose men's and women's JV teams also enjoyed a successful event.

The men's Junior Varsity squad lost in the championship match. After qualifying as the No. 3 seed, they knocked off No. 2-seeded Grand View 3-2 in the semifinals, which set up a match with No. 4 seed Robert Morris University. There; they lost 3-1. The men's tournament team members were A.J. Balich, Trevor Cross, Mitchell Kelley, Chet Maynard, Jacob Ottenfeld, Thomas Rotello, Kyle Snyder and Blake Syron.

Meanwhile, the women's Junior Varsity squad claimed the top seed after qualifying, but were beaten 3-1 by the No. 4 seed St Francis (Ill.) in the semifinals. Women's JV members were Sonya Addison, Haley Douglas, Amber Granzow, Sarah Heffron, Maddie Humphrey, Alison Seibel, Jamie Sexauer and Breanna Smith.

Both men's and women's varsity squads compete this coming weekend in the Tier 1 Kegel Classic in Addison, Ill.
