St. Ambrose played No. 13 Trinity International down to the wire for the second time this season.

But missed opportunities haunted the Bees following Wednesday's 104-94 home loss to the Trojans.

Several missed layups and a 14-of-24 performance from the line ultimately proved to be too much to overcome in the upset bid.

SAU trailed by as many as 16 in the first half and were behind 65-53 five minutes into the second half, but a Kain Arthofer 3-pointer sparked a run. Greg Wagner followed with a basket and added a three of his own to pull the Bees to within 65-61. And seven minutes later, SAU finally drew even at 77-77 on another Wagner score.

Then the Bees hit a bit of a dry spell. St. Ambrose missed its next three shots from the floor and converted just 2-of-4 free throws as Trinity International went on a 10-2 run for an 87-79 lead.

Tyler Hilby hit a triple to cut the deficit to five but SAU would get no closer the rest of the way.

The Bees finished the game shooting 43.4 percent from the field, a number that included several short-range misses. Of the 10 misses from the line, seven came in the second half. TIU (23-4, 16-2 CCAC) shot 53.6 percent for the game and hit 24-of-32 free throws.

Eric Dust led St. Ambrose with 20 points and nine rebounds. Hilby and Lee Hardrick each scored 13 points, Jacoby Posley netted 12 and Wagner finished with 10 points and six boards.

A tough week continues with games at No. 8 Robert Morris Saturday and a neutral-site contest against No. 4 Rochester in Gary, Ind., Sunday.
