Women's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 15, 2017

Before the home finale, St. Ambrose recognized its four seniors - Hannah Bindner, Brette Logic, Morgan Myers and Emily Soy - on Senior Night.

Those four and Hailey Cook then came out and helped an energized Bees' team to an early lead against No. 3 Saint Xavier Wednesday at Lee Lohman Arena.

But the red-hot Cougars proved deserving of their national ranking and knocked down 20 3-pointers (in 40 attempts) in a 103-69 win.

The Bees were extremely good from beyond the arc themselves, hitting 8-of-14 tries, but two different Cougars each hit seven threes.

SAU did get off to a fast start, taking a 7-2 lead on a 3-pointer from Logic and baskets from Cook and Myers. The Bees were down just 19-18 after a Bindner score with 12 seconds left in the quarter but Kara Krolicki hit her third of seven triples at the buzzer to put St. Ambrose in a 22-18 hole.

The Bees stayed close well into the second, trailing just 32-27 after Reeann McCarty knocked down a jumper with four minutes left. But Saint Xavier (26-2, 17-2 CCAC) closed the half on a 17-4 run, started by four 3-pointers, to take a 49-31 lead at the half.

SXU hit 7-of-12 threes as part of a 31-point third quarter to widen the lead.

McCarty came off the bench to lead St. Ambrose with 14 points and five rebounds. Bindner scored 12 points and Soy finished with 10. Twelve of the 14 Bees who played scored at least two points.

SAU (10-18, 5-14 CCAC) will close the season Saturday at Judson. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
