NAIA release

Four members of the St. Ambrose dance team and two from the SAU cheerleading team received 2017 NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance All-America honorable mention as announced by the NAIA today.

Sophomores Anna Pranckus, from Mokena, Ill., and Sam O'Malley, from Tinley Park, Ill., earned all-America dance honorable mention for the second straight year. They were joined by teammates Hailey Broer, a sophomore from Davenport, Iowa, and Kaci Greenleaf, a junior from Eldridge, Iowa, who also received honorable mention recognition in 2015.

Senior Alyssa Papan, from Orland Hills, Ill., and sophomore Emily Studt, from Elgin, Ill., each received all-America honorable mention in competitive cheer.

Athletes performed stunts in front of qualifying competition judges and received scores based on the quality of their try-out. The competitors must accumulate a predetermined score in order to achieve All-America status. SAU competed at the NAIA Northeast Regional hosted by Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich., last Saturday.

The St. Ambrose dance and cheer teams both qualified and will compete at the 2017 NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., Mar. 10-11.
