St. Ambrose battled back from a four-goal, fourth-period deficit only to allow two late goals in the Bees' KCAC-opening 10-8 loss at Benedictine Saturday.

After Mike Jones and Tom Kelly scored goals in the last five minutes of the second quarter to draw the teams even at 4-4 at the half, SAU was outscored 4-0 in the third.

But Matt Madril brought the Bees back. He scored three straight goals, the first on a man-up situation, to trim the deficit to 8-7. With just under six minutes remaining in the fourth, Madril found Justin Johnson for the game-tying goal.

Benedictine (3-0, 1-0 KCAC) came back with a goal 46 seconds later to break the tie. The Ravens then tacked on another inside the final two minutes to secure the win, handing the Bees a loss in their inaugural game as part of the KCAC. St. Ambrose joined the league as an associate member in men's lacrosse this season.

Jared Morgan and Caleb Neff had first-half goals for SAU. Louis Mallillin made 19 saves.

The Bees (1-6, 0-1 KCAC) now have three weeks off before hosting St. Mary in a KCAC matchup on March 25 at 5 p.m. at St. Vincent's.B
