KCAC all-conference men's lacrosse team

Louis Mallillin was named to the all-conference first team and Josh Bales was picked for the second team as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) announced its men's lacrosse postseason awards today.

Mallillin, one of two goalies named to the first team, had a tremendous season for the Bees.

The sophomore from Bolingbrook, Ill., currently leads the NAIA with 206 total saves. His 14.71 saves per game are the second most in the nation. Mallillin also leads the KCAC with a .584 save percentage.

He had two games with at least 20 saves this season, the first two 20-save games in program history. Mallillin came up with a team-record 27 saves against Aquinas (Mich.) on March 31.

In his two-year St. Ambrose career, Mallillin has made 351 saves.

Bales, a freshman from Mukwonago, Wis., earned second team all-KCAC honors as a faceoff specialist.

He won 138-of-212 faceoffs (.651), the second-best mark in the conference. He was also second in the league by averaging 5.67 ground balls per game (68 total).

Bales won a season-best 22 draws in 28 attempts in SAU's 21-3 win over Clarke to close the season Tuesday. He won 10-of-11 in an early-season game against Asbury on Feb. 18.

The freshman scored six goals this season, including two against Tennessee Wesleyan on Feb. 17.

In addition, Justin Johnson was one of just 13 players named a KCAC Scholar-Athlete. Johnson is a junior from Franklin Park, Ill. To be named to the team, student-athletes must be sophomores or older, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.333, and letter in men's lacrosse.

SAU finished the 2017 season with a 3-11 record and were 1-4 as a first-year member of the KCAC.
