Women's Outdoor Track & Field - Wed, Jun. 21, 2017

While her career on the track is over, Molly Jo Smith left St. Ambrose University with one more big accolade.

The eight-time All-American on the track was named to first team CoSIDA Academic All-American. She graduated as the most decorated student-athlete in SAU history.

She was one of just 10 track & field/cross country women in the NAIA to be selected as first-team academic all-Americans. She is the first Fighting Bee track and field or cross country athlete to earn the honor.

"This is very exciting for Molly," SAU head coach Dan Tomlin said. "It really reinforces what we preach that it's not just about being an athlete. Our main priority is being great students, and track & field is just secondary.

"It's neat that the most decorated female student in St. Ambrose history is also honored in this way. She is very deserving and it might be her greatest accomplishment or award."

Smith graduated magna cum laude in May with a 3.86 GPA and a degree in Elementary Education. The Cambridge HS alum will be teaching at 4th grade at Meeker Elementary in the Ames school district this fall.
