Follow the St. Ambrose women's soccer team on their trip to Jamaica through this blog by SAU senior Mallory Stegmueller.

Jamaica Recap
Our Jamaica trip has come to an end and we are so grateful for the experience that we have had. The team is coming home with 3 victories after our 3 matches.

We also were able to engage with the local children of Manchester, Jamaica and Port Antonio, Jamaica (Coach Javid Wood's home town). It was amazing to see the children's love and dedication to the sport.

It was such a wonderful and eye-opening experience to see the value of community that the people of Jamaica share. We learned so much and are taking with us the value of hard work and willingness to help one another that Jamaica represents and are excited to apply that to our team this fall.

We are so grateful for this experience and want to thank everyone who allowed us to have the experience of a lifetime.

Days 2-4
Jamaica has fulfilled our wildest dreams. The SAUWS Team has been loving our first few days on the island. One of the best parts has been taking advantage of the Jamaican terrain by training in the sand!

The team has also been exploring the local customs of Jamaica. Thankfully we have coach Javid Wood, a native of Jamaica, who was able to introduce us to the Sunday night league games. It was a great experience to see the community embrace the sport and also show such pride in their local players.

On Monday the team ventured to Montego Bay, where we did some shopping at the local market and enjoyed the beaches. The girls also enjoyed what Margaritaville had to offer. Margaritaville contained large water slides, trampolines, and other water floats.

On Tuesday we tested our comfort zones by going to "The Blue Hole" in Ocho Rios. The team and staff experienced the beautiful waterfalls, cliff diving, and rope swings in the tropical forestation.

Next on the agenda for the team is a match against The University of The West Indies, in the city of Kingston.

Sunday, July 30
The wait is finally over, the SAU Women's soccer team has landed in Jamaica! We had a tiresome travel day starting at Midway airport in Chicago and ending at Runaway Bay, Jamaica, where we are so excited to spend 10 days in a beautiful home!

We are so lucky to be spending these 10 days with an ocean front and amazing pool, which the girls took advantage of right away!

We ended our evening with a wonderful Jamaican dinner that consisted of authentic rice, beans, plantains, jerk chicken, and bread fruit!

And of course had to finish out the night with a game of beach soccer! Safe to say we are all looking forward to 10 more days in paradise!
