Some familiar faces and a few new ones helped St. Ambrose open the 2017 season with a 3-0 win over Hannibal-LaGrange Thursday night at Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees, opening the season at home for the first time since 2012, came away with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-11 victory.

Clarissa Blick led SAU with eight kills in 10 attempts. Allie Brent finished with seven kills, Abby Happ had six and Emily Moushon tallied five. Those four Bees combined for just three hitting errors. As a team, St. Ambrose collected 39 kills against just 10 attack errors.

SAU overcame a sluggish start with a 10-point run midway through the opening set. Trailing 14-11, Blick and Brent had back-to-back kills to start the run. Happ had an ace and Blick and Moushon combined for a block to put the Bees in front. Blick then had kills on three of the next four points to extend the lead to 19-14. Moushon and Blick paired for another block before Moushon put down a kill for a 21-14 lead.

Momentum carried into the second set as St. Ambrose took leads of 5-2 and 14-7 en route to a 2-0 lead.

The third set was close early before the Bees won 15 of the final 18 points to win going away. Five different players recorded a kill in the final run, led by Happ's four. London Williams and Natalie Bochenek each had two, and Moushon and Brittney Rogers added one apiece. Brent picked up a pair of service aces in the final set.
