St. Ambrose couldn't have asked for a better start to conference play.

The Bees moved to 2-0 in the CCAC following a 3-2 win at Cardinal Stritch. Both league wins have come in five sets as SAU took down Saint Xavier 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 17-15) Tuesday night.

After winning the fourth set, St. Ambrose took a big lead in the fifth. Four early blocks, the last coming from Clarissa Blick and London Williams, an ace from Morgan Twing and three kills from Abby Happ gave SAU an 11-6 lead.

Cardinal Stritch (1-5, 1-1 CCAC) responded with a 5-1 run to close to within a point at 12-11. Two Wolves' errors handed the Bees three match points but SAU could not capitalize.

St. Ambrose got another chance following a Blick kill but again CSU erased the match point. Finally the Bees closed out the win. Becca Lilley put down a kill for a 16-15 lead and Lilley then registered her third ace of the night for the victory. It was one of 13 aces for the Bees as a team.

SAU got big contributions across the board.

Happ led the team with 15 kills and collected 11 digs. Allie Brent finished with 10 digs. Natalie Bochenek finished with eight, Blick and Lilley each had five, and Riley Hummert added four. Williams had three kills and was involved in six of the team's 10 total blocks, and Michaela Hayes finished with two kills in her one set of play.

Marissa Boyer was credited with 25 assists and Twing ended with 19. Jenna Laxton had team-leading 22 digs and five aces.

SAU, now 4-4 overall, will get back at it tomorrow afternoon, beginning play in the two-day Lindenwood-Belleville Battle by the Arch in Belleville, Ill. The Bees will play Cumberland and host Lindenwood-Belleville Friday, and face No. 12 Missouri Baptist and Friends Saturday.
