Just a 60 second gap separated the top five Bees as they raced to a fine team time and a fifth place finish in a loaded field at the Luther All-American Invite.

Competing against several ranked schools, Skylar Mitchell was the top finishing Bee, coming in 22nd at 21:59, while Rane Nichols and Josh Pestka were 34th and 35th respectively in 22:19 in the four-mile race.

Just behind them were Anthony Peters, 52nd in 22:52, and David Whittle, 57th in 23:00 to round out SAU's top five.

The gap of just 60 seconds is evidence of team strength that has been the backbone of successful Bees teams in recent history.

Sam Long was the sixth runner finishing for SAU, in 23:16 and freshman Kyle Campagna made his first varsity finish, coming in 82nd place in 23:52.

"Today was a nice step up in race distance and we used it to get ready for our first 8k," SAU head coach Dan Zeimet said. "We are continuing to find our stride and run smart, aggressive races. Things will ramp up as we go through the season and today was a nice step forward."

The Bees will take the course again on Friday, September 22 at Saukie Golf Course for Augustana's Brissman-Lundeen Invite. It will be the first 8k of the season for the Bees and the gun will go off at 5:15 p.m.
