On a day where it was so hot the course was shortened, the Bees ignored the heat and raced to a 4-mile team time school record. Skylar Mitchell also raced to the school record individual time for 4 miles.

The heat index was over 100 degrees when the gun went off, but Mitchell raced to the top finish for SAU in 21:36. As a team the Bees ran 112:08 which was more than 20 seconds faster than the previous school record set four years ago at the Luther All-American Invite.

It was the second meet in a row where the Bees raced four miles, and seven of the Bees top 9 runners all had personal bests.

The Bees finished fifth out of 17 teams in the gold race, the premier event of the two-race, 38-team event.

Josh Pestka, 21:58, and Rane Nichols, 22:05, continued to be the Bees top 3 runners, while sophomore Sam Long ran in the No. 4 spot for the first time in his career, running a personal best of 23:13. David Whittle rounded out the Bees scoring. Finishing in the varsity 6th and 7th spots were Anthony Peters and Kyle Campagna

The next seven Bees all beat their previous personal bests, all set two weeks ago.

"It was nice to see some real improvements from this group in the last two weeks," SAU head coach Dan Zeimet said. "It's surprising what they did given the conditions and circumstances. I hope this gives them some confidence heading into October."

The Bees next race will be at home as SAU hosts the Fighting Bee Invite on October 7 at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf.
