St. Ambrose remained the only unbeaten team in the CCAC North Division following a 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20 win at Robert Morris Tuesday night.

SAU is now 9-8 overall, but more importantly, 5-0 in the conference. Saint Xavier is second in the division with a 3-1 mark. No other team in the North is above .500. Trinity Christian leads the South Division with a 4-0 record.

The Bees survived a lackluster start against the Eagles. SAU won the opening set despite totaling 12 kills and eight hitting errors. Leading 22-20 late, a Riley Hummert kill gave the team some breathing room and the Bees took advantage of a pair of RMU miscues to take the set.

Two Hummert kills and another from Allie Brent helped St. Ambrose to a 4-1 lead in the second. But Robert Morris (5-8, 1-4 CCAC) used three aces as part of an eight-point run to grab the lead. Morgan Twing was credited with a kill that drew the teams even at 18-18 but four hitting errors and a ball handling error handed the set to the Eagles.

St. Ambrose finally put things together in the third. Abby Happ, Hummert and Brent each had a kill, and Hummert and Brent combined for a block to help SAU to the first five points of the set.

Back-to-back Happ kills moved the lead to 11-3 and a Natalie Bochenek kill later in the set had the lead at 20-13. Robert Morris put together a bit of a run to close to within 20-17, but Bochenek, Emily Moushon and Hummert each had a kill to close out the third.

St. Ambrose squandered an early 11-4 lead in the fourth. With the score tied at 16-16, Happ sandwiched two kills around a Clarissa Blick kill to give the Bees some breathing room up 19-16. With the lead at 20-18, Happ started a string of four straight kills - followed by London Williams, Hummert and Moushon - to give SAU a match point it would convert just three points later.

After recording 23 kills and 16 hitting errors over the first two sets, St. Ambrose registered 36 kills and just 11 hitting errors over the final two.

Hummert led all players with 15 kills. Happ finished with 14. Brent added eight and Moushon had seven. Marissa Boyer had a match-best 23 assists and Twing was right behind with 22. Jenna Laxton (19), Twing (15) and Hummert (13) all hit double digits in digs.

The Bees will look to keep rolling next Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Roosevelt.
