SAU Bowling at Boilermaker Classic
Bowling - Sun, Oct. 1, 2017

For the first time in the nine-season history of the SAU bowling program, both men's and women's teams were victorious on the same weekend. Competing in the 12th Annual Boilermaker Classic in Lafayette, Ind., this past weekend, the men's and women's teams brought home championship trophies.

The women's squad got into an early roll during Saturday's competition and proceeded to open up a 219-pin lead heading into Sunday's baker play. There, they tallied 2878 for their 16 baker games, giving them a 7660 total, which enabled them to coast to an impressive 419-pin margin of victory. They bested a 13-team field, and captured their fifth tournament title over the past three seasons.

Kayla Crawford, Natalie Koprowitz and Hayley Ryan were all in sharp form, landing on the All-Tournament Team. Crawford won the event by averaging 210.80 for her five games (1054 pinfall), with Koprowitz close behind at 1049, taking the runner-up spot. On the men's side, St Ambrose was equally impressive. They shot 5512 for their five games on Saturday, which allowed them to open a 204-pin lead heading into Sunday's baker competition. They added 3150 for their 16 baker games, and their 8262 total was enough to earn a 236-pin margin of victory.

Brenden Sramek led the team by averaging 226.20 for his five games (1131); this was the junior's first singles win and first All-Tournament Team berth since arriving at St. Ambrose. Other championship team members were Billy Hibbard (1026-five games), Brent Boho (1020-five games), Brandon Dodge (788-four games), Nate Stubler (452-two games), Alex Denton (337-two games), Dakota Solonka (193-one game) and Anthony Dodge (165-one game).

St Ambrose finished atop a 20-team field that included three of last season's top-eight ranked squads. Last season's top-ranked team, Robert Morris (Ill.), finished runner-up with 8026, with Calumet taking third with 7969 and McKendree placing fourth with 7955. Vincennes rounded out the top five with 7757.
