Ashley Plumb picked up her first collegiate victory on her home turf.

The junior harrier raced to the win at the Fighting Bee Invite at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf on Saturday thanks to a surge in the final mile. Plumb moved up throughout the meet, closing in on the top two runners within the last 1,000 meters. She made her move with a half mile to go racing past the field in 19:37 to capture the gold.

She was joined very quickly in the finishing area by Abby Sears, Keeley Knobloch and Chloe Gunn, all of whom finished in the top 8. Sears finished in the Bees top 7 for the first time, racing to a fourth place finish in 20:04, while Knobloch finished just one second behind. Gunn finished 8th, in 20:21, while Karyn Paisley rounded out the Bees scoring with a 17th place finish.

The Bee women tallied 35 points in the 17-team field, while fellow CCAC foe Judon finished second with 77 points.

The Bees got varsity 7 scoring freshman Megan Grady and senior Abby Hammer

"The win is further validation that we're dong a lot of things right right now," SAU head coach Dan Zeimet said. "We don't want to be peaking right now, we hve four weeks until our big race and that's what we're still keeping our eye on."

The Bees will split up the next two weeks with one group traveling to Sauk Valley Community College next weekend and another group traveling to Mount Mercy in two weeks.
