Abby Happ's 10 kills weren't enough as St. Ambrose fell in three sets at Saint Xavier Tuesday night.

The 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 loss dropped the Bees to 10-12 overall and 6-4 in the CCAC.

Happ had just three hitting errors to go with her 10 kills while the rest of the team combined for 15 kills and 17 errors. Despite that, SAU had its chances facing a team with just three losses all season, one of those coming to St. Ambrose.

The Bees trailed by as many as 10 points in the first set, as late as 20-10. A Clarissa Blick kill ignited a bit of a rally. Marissa Boyer and Happ each had an ace and Natalie Bochenek had a kill as part of a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-16. Later, Blick and Emily Moushon teamed for a block to pull within four points at 23-19.

With Saint Xavier (23-3, 9-1 CCAC) leading 24-19, SAU fought off a pair of set points before falling 25-21.

St. Ambrose came out strong in the second, taking a 10-5 lead after a six-point run capped by a Happ-Allie Brent block. But the Bees immediately let the Cougars answer with a six-point run of their own to take an 11-10 lead.

SAU led as late as 14-13 on a Riley Hummert kill, but with the teams tied at 15-15, SXU slowly pulled away. The Cougars closed with a 3-0 spurt to take the 2-0 lead.

The third set wasn't as close. The margin was just 7-6 after a Hummert kill but from there, Saint Xavier won four straight points as part of a larger 18-7 run to take the match.

Hummert and Blick each finished with five kills to support Happ. Morgan Twing had a team-best 12 digs, and Hummert and Jenna Laxton shared team-high honors with 11 digs apiece.

The Bees, who won their first five conference matches of the year, will look to get things turned around at home Thursday when SAU hosts Cardinal Stritch. The match begins at 7 p.m.
