Head Coach: 1st Season

Garrett Wimberly was announced as the head men's and women's lacrosse coach at St. Ambrose University on Sept. 1, 2016.

He will begin building a women's program that will start play in the spring on 2018.

Wimberly, the 2013 Deep South Conference Coach of the Year while at the University of Memphis, joined the Bees after serving as a volunteer assistant with the VMI lacrosse program in 2016.

"I am thrilled to be joining the St. Ambrose University family. It is an honor and privilege to coach at such a great institution that carries a rich history of success within the Athletic Department," Wimberly said.

After playing for the University of Memphis club program as a goalie and midfielder from 2008-11, Wimberly started his coaching career at his former high school, St. Benedict at Auburndale in Memphis, Tenn. He took the school to its first state championship game appearance in 2012 as the team finished as runners-up in the TSLA Division 2.

Wimberly then returned to the University of Memphis to guide the men's club program. He transitioned the team into the Deep South Conference and helped the team earn back-to-back winning seasons in 2013 and 2014 while earning his conference coach of the year award.

He was the head coach at Houston High School in Germantown, Tenn., in 2013 before returning to St. Benedict in 2014 to become the boys and girls head lacrosse coach.

Along with starting the women's program, Wimberly took over a St. Ambrose men's program that qualified for the postseason in two of its first three years of existence. The Bees joined the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) in the summer of 2016 as an associate member in men's lacrosse.

"I believe that our Lacrosse programs can succeed in the KCAC and NAIA. The NAIA is growing at a rapid pace. With Coach Shovlain and the SAU Athletic Department being ahead of this trend, I feel we have a strong advantage moving forward," Wimberly said.

"During the interview process, I immediately noticed the passion and commitment SAU holds towards the Athletic programs. The commitment to build new state-of-the-art facilities is a dream come true for any coach and will make recruiting to SAU very promising."

"We are very pleased with the hiring of Coach Wimberly," Shovlain said. "He has experience at all levels and has coached men and women. We are very confident he will successfully lead our lacrosse programs."

Wimberly graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Education, Sports and Leisure Management in 2011

Claire Sheahan
Assistant Coach: 1st Season

Claire Sheahan has been named an Assistant Coach for the Queen Bees for the 2017-2018 season.

Coach Sheahan grew up on the South Side of Chicago and attended Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School. During her freshman year, lacrosse was added as a new club sport at McAuley. She played all four years of high school lacrosse as a goalie and also played for various club lacrosse teams, such as Lakeshore Lacrosse and Cool Sticks. From there she was recruited by Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, to play on their women's lacrosse team.

After playing two seasons at Loras College, Sheahan transferred to St. Ambrose University. There she worked with a former teammate, Jill Carlson, to start the Women's Lacrosse Club at SAU in 2016.

Sheahan graduated from St. Ambrose University with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2017 and is currently working towards pursuing her Master's in the same field at SAU.

"Adding Claire will bring a lot of great experience and knowledge to the program," SAU head lacrosse coach Garrett Wimberly said. "Being a graduate of St. Ambrose, Claire knows the University better than anyone. Her connections in Chicago will also be a huge asset to the program. Claire will work with the goalies and defense while also serving as recruiting coordinator."

Kelly Molloy
Assistant Coach: 1st Season

Kelly Molloy joined the St. Ambrose Women’s Lacrosse team in November 2016.

Molloy grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and attended Glenbard West High School. This is also where she was introduced to the sport of lacrosse, a fairly new sport for the Midwest at the time.

Molloy played all four years of high school and was then recruited by Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., to join their up-and-coming women’s varsity team, coached by Sara Tisdale. Molloy started at Augustana in the fall of 2011 and continued her lacrosse career for two and a half years. Augustana went 15-3 their inaugural season and continued to join the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference the following year.

Augustana became conference champions in 2013 and then proceeded to make history as the first MWLC team to claim a spot in the NCAA tournament. Augustana ended their season in the Sweet 16 facing Trinity College (Connecticut). For Molloy, a highlight of this journey was to be a part of such a successful team and to build the reputation of the program.

Throughout high school and college, Molloy participated in many coaching opportunities for youth lacrosse. She had coached for IGLA (Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association), Naperville North High School, and now for QCLA (Quad City Lacrosse Association).

She now continues her coaching career at St. Ambrose by assisting Head Coach Garrett Wimberly at St. Ambrose.
