Dance
March 11, 2016

Haley Horstman is a member of the SAU dance team. There’s a lot more to her than that, though. She has been dancing since she was four years old. She says she started because her mom put her in a dance class since she was such a tomboy. She enjoyed it, however, and she followed through with it all throughout high school. She is glad that she stuck with it because it got her to where she is today.

She certainly should be proud. The team is doing great this year. Recently, they competed in the East Regional Qualifier competition. After the preliminary round they were in second place, but in the finals round, they were able to pull off a win. Two of the girls, Haley, and Katie Pongratz, even became All-Americans. Three more girls even got an honorable mention. Now the team is preparing for Nationals this weekend. Good luck ladies!

Dancing is one of Haley’s passions in life, but not the only one. In her spare time she likes to remain active doing her favorite activities. She enjoys concerts, but what she really loves is to be outside. While she is outside she likes kayaking, hiking, and just going to sporting events. Another interest of hers is that she likes to bake cupcakes at her summer job at Scratch Cupcakery in West Des Moines.

While attending SAU, she has majored in biology and minored in psychology. After she graduates this may she plans on moving to West Des Moines, Iowa and then attending the Mercy College of Health Sciences’ sonography program. Once she’s done with that, she wants to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
