Dan Zeimet is the head men's and women's cross country coach for the Fighting Bees, and also serves as the assistant coach for track, working with the middle-distance crew.

Since being named head cross country coach in 2003, the Fighting Bees have seen its programs become the highly-regarded teams they are today.

Since 2003, Zeimet’s cross country teams have won the Midwest Collegiate Conference 11 times (men in '06, '07, '08, ‘09, '12 and '14; women in '04, '05, '12, '13 and '14). During that time, he has sent seven teams and several individuals on to the NAIA National XC Championships and has had 70+ athletes earn academic scholar honors.

In 2012, the Fighting Bee women finished 21st in the country after winning the MCC Championship with the fastest team time in conference history. The men finished 27th at the National Championship, their highest finish in more than a decade.

In 2013, the Fighting Bee women made it back-to-back top 25 finishes as they finished 22nd at the NAIA National Championships.

From 1999-2002, Zeimet served as the Head Cross Country Coach at Assumption High School, Davenport, Iowa. At Assumption, his boy’s squad finished in the top five at the Iowa state meet in 2001 and 2002 while also winning the Boys Mississippi Athletic Conference Championship in 2001.

Zeimet, a '91 BA, '96 MBA alum, ran both track and cross country for four years for the Fighting Bees and was a two-time XC national qualifier. He was inducted into the St. Ambrose Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. He also serves as the University Registrar. Coach Zeimet and his wife, Melissa, have two children, Tyler James and Leah Rose.

Coaching Philosophy

My coaching philosophy centers on the individual student-athlete who has the ability to balance academics, athletics, family, and friends. I’ve learned through the years that to be a successful runner, we need to first improve our overall fitness level then start looking at the details. Set the foundation… before you build the second level.

I’m a competitor. I believe the key to success lies within the preparation, attitude, and intelligence of the individual. I will challenge you to develop and expand all three attributes.

However, we never forget the team…

My definition of a team is a group of athletes who train together in a supportive, yet challenging setting. They have a common interest (love of running) and purpose (seek conference titles). Success as an individual is rewarding; success as a group is exhilarating. We seek the latter.

Our program will seek your trust, show a commitment to enhance lives, respect differences in backgrounds & experiences, and honor the rich tradition of St. Ambrose Cross Country.

We are St. Ambrose Fighting Bees!
