The SAU Cheer and Dance Teams won the York Crown Classic in York, Neb., Friday.

The St. Ambrose Cheer Team posted the top score in the 14-team event with an 89.83. That was more than three points better than second-place Missouri Valley (86.2). Saint Mary (84.08), Friends (78.97) and Benedictine (75.17) composed the rest of the top five.

Competitors were Ava Arnold, JP Elder, Chloe Fulcher, Graysen Gerlinger, Mikal Honeycutt, Sydnee Horstman, Savanah Metzger, Patrick Nauman, Alyssa Oczko, Taye Owten, Reese Puleo, Rachel Ruplinger, Ryan Russo, Haley Scholbrock, Savannah Schumacher, Will Smith, Brady Teel and RJ Woods. Devyn George, Jesse Lopez, Layla Taylor and Regan Tucker were the alternates.

The SAU Dance Team earned a score of 92.97, nearly nine points better than runner-up Doane (84.07). Concordia (Neb.) was third with a score of 83.77 while Oklahoma City (83.03) and Morningside (81.87) rounded out the top five. A total of 16 teams competed.

Maddy Barnes, Lilly Bonnet, Lexi Crook, Shea Denahy, Sara Gundacker, Grace Harms, Josie Kaffenberger, Karsyn Kuffler, Josephine Lai, Evie Miller, Sydnie Offermann, Emma Schoonover, Kyla Shaw and Leah Zeimet competed. Maggie Schreiber and Grace Sheldon were the alternates.

Both teams return to action next Friday and Saturday. The Cheer Team will compete in the Thresher Invitational in Newton, Kan., while the Dance Team will be at the Northwestern Invite in Orange City, Iowa.
