Gillen named NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week

Tom Gillen has been named the NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in St. Ambrose's 17-10 win over No. 12 Olivet Nazarene last Saturday.

Gillen, a senior from Alsip, Ill., went 3-for-3 on his field goal tries, including a 47-yarder that is his new career long. He was also successful from 35 and 39 yards.

He got SAU on the board in the opening seconds of the second quarter, booting a 41-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3. Later in the period, he kicked his 47-yarder to cut the deficit to 10-6 at the half. Late in the third, Gillen extended the Bee lead to 15-10 with a 39-yard effort. St. Ambrose would add a safety in the fourth quarter to account for the final score.

This season, Gillen has connected on 5-of-7 field goals. He is also 21-of-22 on PATs.
