St. Ambrose drops Senior Day finale to #16 William Penn

On a windy Senior Day at Jack and Pat Bush Stadium, St. Ambrose wrapped up its 2025 campaign with a 42-7 loss to No. 16 William Penn Saturday afternoon.

The Bees found success on the ground, running for 175 yards, but two turnovers thrwarted drives, and SAU had no luck through the air, passing for just 36 total yards.

The nationally-ranked Statesmen scored touchdowns on their first three drives. SAU's first drive reached WPU territory, but a bad snap led to Alec Ponder having his pass batted up into the air, which was picked off.

Seven straight running plays got the Bees on the board on their second possession. Tre Jenkins rushed for 26 yards, Ponder had six and Zaire Wilcox added 41, including 17 on a touchdown run, which proved to be the Bees' only points of the day.

William Penn (10-1, 5-1 Heart) added a second second-quarter touchdown to go up 28-7 at the half.

St. Ambrose (4-7, 3-3 Heart) put another good drive together to open the second half. Following a 58-yard kickoff return from Kameron Bohnsack, the Bees marched to the Statesmen 13-yard line before a fumble derailed the drive.

WPU scored single touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to account for the final score.

While the Bees finished with just 211 yards of total offense, the Statesmen rolled up 484 total yards, including 317 through the air.

Ponder completed seven passes for the 36 yards. Braden Downs caught three of those passes for 10 yards. Wilcox had two receptions for 10 yards. Jenkins and Bohnsack each had one catch.

Wilcox finished with 89 yards on 14 carries while Jenkins rushed for 74 yards on 20 attempts.

Caden McDermott, Brock Mason and Colin Gudella led the defense with eight tackles apiece. Emmanuel Howard was in on six tackles, Grant Macke made four stops and Nolan Obert had three sacks, including 1.5 behind the line of scrimmage.

Prior to the game, St. Ambrose honored the senior members of the band, cheer team, dance team and football team. The football members included managers Jack Esselman and Brady Smith, and Djabril McNabb, Brennan Wilson, Jon Grant, Jeffrey Speer, Nolan Obert, Jaedyn Price, Brock Mason, CJ Resto, Colin Gudella, Rolando Sepulveda, Aidan Pieper, Caleb Swanson, Zaire Wilcox, Cole Kemper, Connor Forbes, Jacob Moisa, Joe Jummati and Kaden McCombs.
