Late Run Leads St. Ambrose Past Clarke

St. Ambrose scored eight of the game's final 10 points to pull out a 69-64 Midwest Collegiate Conference win over Clarke Saturday afternoon in Lee Lohman Arena.

After leading much of the second half, the Bees found themselves behind 62-61 with 6:22 to play. A short Chris Donnelly jumper followed by a pair of Mike Kennedy baskets pushed SAU in front 67-62. After Clarke (9-9, 2-3 MCC) got back to within three points, Justin Tiner sealed the win by nailing two free throws with 23 seconds remaining.

The Bees won despite shooting less than 39 percent from the floor in the second half. After hitting 5-of-14 3-point attempts in the first half in building a 41-34 halftime lead, SAU knocked down only 2-of-11 from beyond the arc in the second half.

Kennedy led St. Ambrose with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Donnelly chipped in with 19 points and game highs of six assists and five steals. Tiner scored nine.

St. Ambrose (12-3, 2-1 MCC) will host Roosevelt in a non-conference matchup Sunday at 2 p.m.
