Defensive Effort Helps Bees Stop Skid

St. Ambrose limited Viterbo to 32 percent shooting in snapping a two-game losing streak with a 66-56 win Wednesday night. The Bees are 14-5 overall and 3-3 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

SAU used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to turn a 19-17 deficit into a 28-19 lead. The advantage was 35-23 at the half.

The lead grew to as large as 22 points in the second half before Viterbo (3-17, 1-5 MCC) closed the game with the final 12 points to trim the final margin to 10.

The SAU defense held the V-Hawks to less than 30 percent shooting in the first half. The Bees also grabbed a 42-27 edge on the boards.

Justin Blondell led St. Ambrose with 18 points. Justin Tiner scored 12. Axel Messager and Bryce Davis each grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Bees visit #13 Iowa Wesleyan Saturday at 3 p.m.
