Kennedy Named MCC Player of the Week
For the third time this season, St. Ambrose junior Mike Kennedy was named the Midwest Collegiate Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The 6-6 forward took home the award on Jan. 31 after averaging 23.3 points, while shooting nearly 49 percent from the floor, and 7.7 rebounds over three conference wins last week. His play has helped the Bees vault back into the thick of the MCC race.
Kennedy started the week by scoring 25 points in a 63-60 home win over Ashford Monday night. He hit 7-of-11 from the floor and 10-of-11 from the line in finishing with game-high scoring honors. He also grabbed five boards.
Thursday, he scored 26 points and pulled down seven boards to lead the Bees to a 77-74 win at William Penn. He connected on 9-of-15 from the floor, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and all four free throw attempts.
Just three days later against the same Statesmen, Kennedy poured in 19 points to go along with a team-high 11 rebounds in a 78-71 win over WPU.
This season, Kennedy is averaging 20.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest. He leads the MCC in scoring by two points per game and is third in rebounding. Kennedy has helped the Bees to an 18-5 record, including a 7-3 mark in the MCC. SAU returns to the court Wednesday at Grand View.
