Five-Game Winning Streak Snapped

St. Ambrose had its five-game winning streak snapped after dropping a 78-64 decision at Grand View Thursday night. The loss moves the Bees to 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

After shooting just 32 percent from the floor in the first half, SAU found itself down 28-20 at the break. The Bees shot much better in the second half, at a 47 percent clip, but could not chase down Grand View (10-15, 6-6 MCC). The Vikings shot 67 percent in the second half and finished just under 55 percent from the field for the game. GVU also knocked down 27-of-31 free throw attempts in the win.

St. Ambrose made two mini runs in the second half. A Mike Kennedy (pictured right) three-point play pulled the Bees to within four points at 49-45 with just over eight minutes remaining. But Grand View answered by scoring the next seven points over a three-minute stretch to rebuild an 11-point lead.

A minute later, Josh Hutton hit a 3-pointer to cap a 6-0 Bee run to cut the deficit to 56-51 with more than four minutes left. Again GVU answered with a 7-0 spurt and finished the win off from the line from there.

After scoring just three points in the first half, Kennedy bounced back to finish with a team-high 20 points. Axel Messager scored 10 points. Bryce Davis and Lorenzo Fiol came off the bench to finish with nine and eight points, respectively.

The Bees, in the middle of the MCC standings, will visit Clarke for a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
