Kennedy Tabbed as First Team All-American
Junior forward Mike Kennedy became the first First Team All-American men's basketball player at St. Ambrose since 2004 and just the fourth overall when he was named to the 2011 team by the NAIA recently.
Kennedy, the 2011 Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and three-time first team all-conference pick, averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Bees, to lead the conference in scoring and rank third in rebounding. He also led the MCC in defensive rebounds (5.3 per game) and was 12th in the league in field goal percentage (.488).
The 14th-leading scorer in the country, Kennedy scored in double figures in 30 of the team's 32 games and scored at least 20 points 18 times. He dropped a season-high 34 points in a season-opening win over Graceland on Nov. 2.
In just three seasons with the Bees, Kennedy, from Evergreen Park, Ill., has scored 1,623 career points, eighth all-time in school history.
Kennedy is just the fourth Bee to earn First Team All-American status. He joins Matt Fitzpatrick (2004), Karl Peterson (2004) and Bob Smiley (1954) on the list.
