Spriggs, Narbona named CCAC Players of the Week

CHICAGO --- Leading their team to three wins over a busy six-day stretch, St. Ambrose University's Will Spriggs (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Guillermo Narbona (Malaga, Spain) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Players of the Week for the seven-day period ending Dec. 22, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

Spriggs claimed CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord after averaging 20.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steals in the three victories. He also shot 52.8 percent from the field (19-of-36), 45.5 percent from 3-point range (5-of-11) and made 17 of his 19 free-throw attempts (89.5 pct.).

The senior guard opened the busy stretch last Monday, scoring 19 of his 27 points in the second half to help the Fighting Bees come back from a six-point deficit for an eventual 85-77 league win over Calumet College of St. Joseph. He also was credited with four assists and three rebounds in the contest.

Two days later, Spriggs rallied SAU again, this time from a 17-point deficit with all 17 of his markers coming after the break in a 69-67 nod over Missouri Baptist University on Wednesday. He hit nine of his 10 free throws that night, while also recording six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

The Bees completed the comeback week on Saturday when they turned an 11-point deficit into an 88-77 conference victory over Judson University. In that contest, Spriggs rang up 16 points, four 3-pointers in seven attempts, four assists, two rebounds and one block.

Narbona, meanwhile, got things done on the other end of the court for St. Ambrose en route to securing CCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. He averaged just under 10 defensive rebounds per game and 11.0 overall to go along with 2.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per contest in the three victories.

The sophomore forward produced 11 defensive boards, four steals, one block and three assists in the Calumet St. Joseph game before just missing on a double-double with nine points, nine rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists in the win over Missouri Baptist.

Narbona did author a double-double three days later with his 13 rebounds and 10 points opposite Judson, where he was also credited with three steals and one assist.

St. Ambrose's perfect 3-0 week put the Bees at 9-2 overall and 3-2 against league competition.
