Four in double figures as Bees beat Emmaus

Guillermo Narbona scored a game-high 28 points and Collin Wainscott knocked down six 3-pointers in scoring 20 points to lead St. Ambrose to a 97-87 home win over Emmaus University Thursday night.

The Bees shot nearly 55 percent from the floor and hit nearly 48 percent of their 3-point attempts in improving to 4-6 on the season. SAU led the entire way and built an 18-point lead late in the second half.

Emmaus was able to stay close thanks to shooting almost 48 percent overall and burying 13 threes.

Leading 41-35 late in the half, St. Ambrose closed with a 9-3 run, capped by a Wainscott three-point play to build a 50-39 lead at the break.

The lead remained in double figures for most of the second half and ballooned to as many as 18 points at 66-48 on a Narbona free throw with 15 minutes to play.

The game appeared over when Narbona hit two free throws to give the Bees a 94-78 lead with just 1:41 left. But the Eagles made a late charge.

Emmaus connected on three straight triples, sandwiched around a pair of SAU turnovers, to get within 94-87 inside the final minute.

Ignacio Dacunda ended the run with two from the line and Wainscott later added a single free throw to end the scoring.

Narbona finished 11-of-17 from the field in dropping in his 28 points. Wainscott was 6-of-8 from beyond the arc in scoring 20. He added a team-best eight rebounds.

Dacunda finished with 16 points and six rebounds and Nolan Deitrich netted 11 to give the Bees four players in double figures.

Kevin Williams threw in nine points. Alec Platipodis scored seven, Kieran Farrell had four and Razak Sudani added two.

Farrell, Platipodis and Ryan Kenney each pulled down four boards.

St. Ambrose will return to conference play Saturday with a game at Saint Xavier.
