SAU falls flat in loss to St. Francis

St. Ambrose got off to a slow start and never truly recovered in falling to St. Francis 89-52 Wednesday night in Lee Lohman Arena. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak.

The Bees shot just 28.6 percent from the floor and 25.9 percent from 3-point range. They allowed the Saints to shoot nearly 60 percent overall and almost 40 percent from distance.

SAU missed its first seven shots from the field and USF hit five of its first seven attempts as the Saints built a 13-0 lead five minutes into the game.

A Guillermo Narbona basket following an offensive rebound ended the drought.

St. Ambrose (10-13, 7-8 CCAC) chipped away and ultimately got to within six at 26-20 on an Ignacio Dacunda 3-pointer with 3:38 remaining in the half. But the Bees proceeded to miss their next six shots as the Saints closed with eight straight points to rebuild a 34-20 lead at the break.

St. Francis (16-6, 11-4 CCAC) then opened the second half with seven consecutive points to push the advantage to 41-20.

SAU didn't threaten the rest of the way.

Dacunda led the Bees with 17 points and seven rebounds. He was the only player on the team to finish with more than six points.

Nolan Deitrich scored six, Collin Wainscott had five and Ryan Kenney added four. Nolan Sexton, Kevin Williams, Razak Sudani and Fran Lopez Alameda each netted three points. Narbona, Kieran Farrell, Solomon Garrison and Nikos Gerokostas added two points apiece.

St. Ambrose will visit Trinity Christian Saturday.
