Wainscott's late three lifts SAU to double-overtime win

Collin Wainscott's 3-pointer at the buzzer lifted St. Ambrose to a 93-90 double-overtime win at Trinity Christian Saturday afternoon.

It capped a game that saw 12 ties and 15 lead changes. And gave the Bees their fourth win in five games.

Wainscott hit a pair of threes in the second overtime.

His first one gave SAU an 88-83 lead with two minutes remaining. After TCC closed to within 88-87 after four quick points, Guillermo Narbona knocked down a jumper to rebuild a three-point lead with 40 seconds left.

The Trolls came down and scored and then forced a Bee turnover. That ultimately led to a TCC free throw to tie the game at 90-90.

But Wainscott took a pass from Solomon Garrison and knocked down the game-winner as the clock hit zero.

St. Ambrose (11-13, 8-8 CCAC) came up with several big shots late.

First it was a Kieran Farrell jumper inside the final 30 seconds of regulation to tie the game at 77-77 that forced overtime. Then Narbona scored inside late in the first extra session to tie the game at 81-81 and force a second overtime.

SAU was just 2-of-7 from the field in the first OT but the team hit 5-of-7 from the floor in the second.

That helped the Bees shoot better than 53 percent for the game. The team was 11-of-27 from beyond the arc, and was able to survive despite getting outscored 19-2 from the line.

Several Bees had big games, but no one was better than Narbona, who finished with 31 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

Ignacio Dacunda recorded 23 points, nine boards and five assists.

Wainscott finished with four triples to score 17 points. He matched Narbona with seven assists.

Farrell netted nine points, Ryan Kenney had eight and Garrison chipped in with five and four assists, including the helper on the game-winner.

SAU will return home to host Saint Xavier Wednesday.
