Stoetzel named CCAC Freshman of the Year; joins three others on all-CCAC Team
CCAC Men's Golf All-Conference
Jacob Stoetzel was tabbed the CCAC Freshman of the Year as the conference announced its postseason men's golf awards. Stoetzel also earned first-team all-conference honors. Teammates Owen Hultman, Dylan McAleer and Tim Marcum were named Second Team all-CCAC.
Stoetzel, from Mokena, Ill., posted the team's best scoring average, shooting a 76.17 over 23 rounds at 11 tournaments. He upped his play in the spring, averaging a 74.73 over 11 rounds at five events.
He recorded four top-five individual finishes, with three of those coming in the Bees' final four tournaments of the year. Stoetzel's best showing came at the Loras Duhawk Invitational, where he was runner-up with a 2-over 146 (73-73). He tied for 11th place at the Western Illinois University Intercollegiate against an NCAA Division I field, shooting a 221 (76-73-72). He ended the year by tying for third at the CCAC Championships.
Hultman, the 2023 CCAC Player of the Year, earned all-conference honors for the second straight season. The senior from Belvidere, Ill., averaged a 77.91 over 23 rounds and earned a pair of top-five finishes. He tied for fourth at the Loras Tri-State Classic after shooting a second-round 72 and tied for fifth at the Verhille Invitational.
McAleer, the league's freshman of the year in 2022, was a repeat selection to the all-conference second team. He averaged a 77.30 over 23 rounds and posted a season-low 71 at the first round of the CCAC Championships. The junior from DeWitt, Iowa, finished with a share of fifth place at the conference tournament. He took sixth at the Loras Classic with a final-round 70.
Marcum averaged a 78.29 over 21 rounds this year. He took third at the Central Fall Invitational after closing with a 71. The junior from Stillman Valley, Ill., added another top-10 finish at the CCAC Championships, where he placed ninth.
The four all-conference selections are the most for St. Ambrose since joining the CCAC in 2015-16.
