SAU hosts NAIA Fall Preview at TPC Deere Run

Serving as host of the NAIA National Preview at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., St. Ambrose finished in the top third, placing eighth in the two-day, 24-team event.

Colin Riggs led the Bees. He opened with a 75 Monday before firing a 2-over 73 Tuesday. His 148 was good for a tie for 13th.

Mason Steinert ended just a single shot behind his teammate. Steinert also closed with a 73, that coming on the heels of a 76, to shoot a 149 and take 21st place.

Dylan McAleer fired back-to-back 78s for a 156. Tim Marcum shared the same score after carding a 77 and a 79. Nathan Unes came in with a 165 (84-81).

St. Ambrose put together rounds of 306 and 303 for a 609, good for eighth. Mount Mercy claimed the team title with a 14-over 582.

Griffin Smits led a second SAU team. He had rounds of 78 and 74 for a 152. Jacob Lange (85-80=165), Brody Miguel (87-78=165), Hayden Lee (85-86=171) and Josh Vanderploeg (89-84=173) also competed for the Bees.

SAU White finished in a tie for 18th with a 651.

Mount Mercy's Theo Baker won medalist honors with a 6-under 136 (70-66). Grand View's Jack Winkel was the only other player to finish under par, taking second with a 1-under 141 (71-70).

The Bees will next compete in the Central Fall Classic played at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, Oct. 7-8.
