McAleer leads Bees at Central Fall Classic

Dylan McAleer just missed a top-10 finish, settling for 11th place, to lead St. Ambrose at the Central Fall Classic, played at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, Monday and Tuesday.

McAleer carded the Bees' top two rounds of the tournament, shooting an opening-round 74 and following that up with a 75 Tuesday. His 149 left him a single shot out of what would have been a four-way tie for eighth place.

Colin Riggs earned a top-20 showing as he tied for 16th overall. He fired a 75 and backed that up with a 77 for a 152.

The other three Bees made a second-day charge up the leaderboard.

After shooting an 83, Nathan Unes bounced back with a 78 for a 161 total. Tim Marcum made the largest improvement. He recovered from an 85 to post a 77 for a 162. Mason Steinert also started with an 85, but closed with a 78 for a 163.

SAU put rounds of 317 and 307 together for a 624. That was good for eighth place in the 12-team tournament. Luther won with a 587 (295-292).

Playing as individuals, Brody Miguel shot a 157 (77-80) and Griffin Smits fired a 167 (90-77).

Knox College's Thomas Lyaudet claimed medalist honors by three strokes. He shot a 3-under 141 (70-71).

The Bees will compete at the Whistling Straits Classic played at Whisting Straits in Kohler, Wis., next Monday and Tuesday.
