Bees take second at Duhawk Spring Invitational

With Carsen Theis finishing fifth overall and Dylan McAleer placing sixth, St. Ambrose took second at the Loras Duhawk Spring Invitational at the Meadows in Dubuque, Iowa, Sunday and Monday.

The two Bees each opened with a 2-over 74 Sunday before slipping slightly Monday. Theis closed with a 79 for a 153 total while McAleer came in with an 80 for a 154.

The pair helped St. Ambrose fire an opening-day 311. The Bees shot a 317 Monday to tie Luther (309-319) for second place with a 628. Dubuque won the event with a 605 (296-309).

Colin Riggs made a big climb on the second day. After shooting a first-round 82, Riggs carded a 75 to finish with a 157 and a share of 12th place.

Mason Steinert shot a 165 (81-84) and Jacob Stoetzel fired a 166 (83-83) for SAU.

A second St. Ambrose team finished fourth with a 633 (314-319), just five shots behind the first team.

Griffin Smits led the way. His rounds of 75 and 81 put him in 11th place with a 156. Also playing for St. Ambrose were Ben King (79-79=158), Vinny Messana (79-79=158), Tim Marcum (81-80=161) and Nathan Unes (85-89=174). 

Dubuque's Carter Ruegsegger took individiaul medalist honors with a 3-over 147 (72-75).

The Bees will compete in the Cardinal Classic at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Ill., Monday and Tuesday.
