St. Ambrose closes fall season at Whistling Straits
St. Ambrose wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule by finishing eighth at the Whistling Straits Classic hosted by Lawrence Tech at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.
Carsen Theis led the way by earning another top-20 finish. That came after a strong close. After shooting an 83 Monday, Theis fired the team's best round of the tournament, a 77 Tuesday, to climb 11 spots. His 160 left him in a tie for 17th place.
Luke Purcell was the only Bee who didn't shoot a better second-round score. But he had the best first-round on the team, carding a 79. He finished with an 83 for a 162, good for 22nd place.
Jacob Stoetzel shot rounds of 85 and 81 for his 166. After each opened with an 89, Griffin Smits and Ben King made multi-shot improvements Tuesday. Smits closed with an 83 for a 172 and King fired a second-day 84 for a 173.
St. Ambrose finished with rounds of 336 and 324 to take eighth with a 660. Taylor won the 12-team tournament with a 608 (312-296).
Pikeville's Kaeden Anderson claimed individual medalist honors with a 5-over 149 (76-73).
