Bales, Morgan and Wimberly receive KCAC recognition

KCAC release

Josh Bales was named to the all-conference first team, Jared Morgan was selected to the second team and Garrett Wimberly was named the league's co-coach of the year as the KCAC announced its postseason men's lacrosse awards.

Bales, named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, has won 72.9 percent of his face-offs this season. The sophomore from Mukwonago, Wis., has won 212-of-291 face-offs while also contributing four goals and two assists.

Morgan, a junior midfielder from Imperial, Mo., leads the team with 24 goals to go along with seven assists. He took home conference and NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week honors on March 5 after tallying nine goals and three assists over two St. Ambrose wins.

Wimberly, in his second year as head coach of the men's program, has led the Bees to an 8-6 record this season, already a five-win improvement from a year ago. St. Ambrose finished 4-2 in the conference to earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming KCAC Tournament.

In addition, six Bees - Austin Adams, Erik Butzen, Liam Griffin, Thomas Kelly, Sean Prendergast and Gabe Weyland - were named to the KCAC All-Academic Team.

The Bees will face St. Mary (Kan.) in a conference tournament semifinal Thursday at 1 p.m. The tournament championship game will be Saturday.
