Bees tally eleven first-quarter goals in win
Nine Bees scored at least one goal, and St. Ambrose used 11 first quarter goals to get a 18-3 win over Cleary (Mich.) Tuesday night.
Nate Crawford got the scoring started for SAU off a feed from Michael Shakerin. Goals from Cole Danner, Sam Kerr, Matt Romero, and Hunter Northway followed. Kerr scored his second goal of the quarter from Cameron Daugherty, who followed up with a goal of his own. Michael Keating scored two straight, Kerr tacked on another, and Daugherty added one more for the 11-0 lead after the first. Cleary scored two goals to start the second quarter, but Shakerin, Jake Herman, Crawford, and Daugherty each found the back of the net.
Things slowed down in the second half with Bees goals coming from Daugherty and Romero in the third, and Danner in the fourth. The Cougars scored their only goal of the half in the fourth quarter, making the final score 18-3.
Along with his two goals, Crawford also had four assists on the night. The Bees outshot their opponent 52-21 and won 22 of the face-offs. SAU picked up 29 more ground balls than the home team.
Johnny Moran got the start in goal, making six saves. Andrew Lis made three saves while in the net.
St. Ambrose will go for their sixth straight win on Saturday against Morningside (Iowa).
