St. Ambrose wins season opener against Knox College

St. Ambrose men's soccer hosted Division III Knox College for the 2025 season opener campaign Saturday evening in Davenport, Iowa. The weather was almost as beautiful as the soccer quality of the SAU men's soccer team. The Bees were able to push past the Prairie Fire with 2-0 win at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

The Bees dominated every stat category, outshooting the Prairie Fire 14-10. St. Ambrose held a 6-5 edge on corner kicks, with all giving St. Ambrose a shot at the net.

St. Ambrose struck first with a goal from Luiz Gonzalez in the 14th minute of the first half. This came off one of four shots the Bees had in the half. The remaining time was a back-and-forth battle of possession.

In the second half, there was once again a clash for possession of the ball. There was a total of 13 shots between each team. The Bees struck again with a goal from Jake Pollock in the 63rd minute of the match.

Josh Simon led St. Ambrose with three shots. Matheus Migueis, Jörn Reck, Joe Campbell, Jake Pollock, Polvios Pelopida, Narnnam Kongsappaisal, Emilio Gomez, Eli Elliott, Owen Hull, Luiz Gonzalez, and Kai Yoshikane each tallied one shot.

Bees' goalie, Dawson Yegge, held it down between the pipes, collecting four saves off 10 shots from the Prairie Fire.

The Bees are back in action Tues, Aug. 26, for a matchup with Dakota Wesleyan University. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
