St. Ambrose earn third win of the season

St. Ambrose men's soccer hosted the NAIA Mount Mercy Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa. The Bees came out on top with a 3-1 victory at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

The Bees controlled the match in set pieces, earning a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Despite being outshot 15-11, St. Ambrose converted more of their opportunities into goals.

Mount Mercy struck first in the 16th minute, but the Bees remained determined to answer before halftime. Jake Pollock equalized in the 30th minute with a goal off a free kick from Jörn Reck. Just two minutes later, Gus Stevens put St. Ambrose ahead 2-1.

Bees were ready for more starting the second half. The Mustangs started out strong and aggressive, notching three yellow cards in the second half. Joe Campbell pursued past a strong defense to score in the 80th minute to seal the game 3-1.

Jake Pollock led St. Ambrose with five shots. Followed by Joe Campbell, Luiz Gonzalez, Josh Simon, Gus Stevens, Narnnam Kongsappaisal, and Ricardo Ronconi, each having one shot.

Bees' goalie, Dawson Yegge, held it down between the pipes, collecting five saves off 15 shots from the Mustangs.

The Bees are back in action on Wednesday, September 5, for a matchup with Culver-Stockton College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
