St. Ambrose pushes past Hannibal-LaGrange in one-goal thriller
St. Ambrose men's soccer hosted the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans on a steamy Wednesday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa. The Bees came out on top with a 4-3 victory at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
The Bees were outshot 13-10 and fell 6-3 in corner kicks. Despite being outshone in the stat book, the Bees were able to capitalize on their opportunities.
The Trojans came out ready to play, scoring first in the 13th minute. Not even three minutes later, the bees equalized with a goal from Josh Simon. Less than a minute after, Joe Campbell scored with an assist from Luiz Ferbeyre to put the Bees up 2-1. The Trojans scored in the 38th minute to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the first half.
The Bees were committed to winning the last game of the non-conference season. Ricardo Ronconi scored off another assist from Ferbeyre with less than five minutes into the second half to put the Bees up 3-2. The Trojans equalized again in the 54th minute. With how back and forth the game was, Ferbeyre was set to finish the match with a win. Not even six minutes later, in the 60th minute, Ferbeyre called the game.
Ronconi and Simon led St. Ambrose with two shots. Dylan Ollendieck, Matthew Daly, Campbell, Jake Pollock, Narnnam Kongsappaisal, and Ferbeyre all tallied one shot. Ferbeyre ended the game with one goal and two assists.
Bees' goalie, Dawson Yegge, collected two saves from the five shots on goal, off of the Trojans' thirteen shots total.
The Bees are on the road Wednesday, September 24th, for their first conference game of the season against the St. Francis Saints at 7:00 p.m.
