Bees dominate Calumet 9–1 in home finale & senior day
St. Ambrose men's soccer closed out their regular conference season on Saturday afternoon against Calumet College of St. Joseph at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex with a 9-1 victory.
The Bees wasted no time getting on the board. Eli Elliott opened the scoring just over a minute into the match. Josh Simon doubled the lead in the 7th minute, finishing a pass from Elias Skogland. Elliott struck again in the 12th minute of the match, off an assist from Miguel Fernandez, to make it 3–0. St. Ambrose continued to pour on the pressure late in the first half. Berto Medrano scored in the 40th minute, assisted by Wille Hulander. Just 25 seconds later, Owen Hull added a goal to send the Bees into halftime with a 5–0 advantage.
The momentum carried into the second half as Fernandez found the back of the net in the 59th minute from another Skogland assist. After Calumet's lone goal in the 71st minute, the Bees closed strong with three more goals. Luis Ferbeyre, Zach Milos, and Ezequiel Solzi each netted goals in the final 19 minutes to secure the 9–1 win.
Elliott led the attack with seven shots. Solzi followed with five. Jörn Reck was able to get four shots off with Simon and Fernandez following with three. Milos, Skogland, and Hull added two shots on the board. Hulander, Charlie Leinart, Lucas Pizani, Medrano, Matthew Daly, and Matheus Migueis all tallied a shot. The Bees dominated offensively, outshooting Calumet 35–3, with 19 of those shots on goal. St. Ambrose also earned a commanding 16–2 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Goalkeeper Dawson Yegge played the first half in net with one shot on goal, and Thomas Long closed out the second half with zero shots on goal.
With this victory, St. Ambrose takes 8th in the CCAC Conference Standings. The Bees are set to play #1 seed Olivet Nazarene in the CCAC Tournament Quarterfinal at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5th, in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
