Bees finish second and third at Luther Invitational

Competing in their first two-day invitational, the St. Ambrose men's swimming and diving team finished in second place and the women took third at the Luther Invitational over the weekend.

The men finished with 676 points to finish behind Luther (808 points) and ahead of both Wis.-La Crosse (532.5) and Iowa Lakes Community College (354.5).

Josh Fleming was the lone individual winner for the men, taking the 100-yard butterfly title in 54.16 seconds. He also anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team in its winning time of 1:30.05. Other relay members were Mitch Berendes, Jonathan Whittle and Jason Schuler.

Nathan Kuszynski finished in the top three in three different events, including a pair-of runner-up showings. He took second in both the 500-yard freestyle in 4:58.82 and in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:25.32. He also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:01.68.

Justin Fales was also the runner-up in two events, finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.74) and in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:33.44).

Berendes (1:05.59) and Cole Davis (1:05.94) finished second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Bees.

The SAU women took third with 477 points. Luther won the team title with 898 points and Wis.-La Crosse was second with 711 points. The Bees finished in front of Iowa Lakes (303).

Shraddha Sudhir had two top-three individiaul finishes. She was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.06) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.27).

Andrea Adam took first place in the one-meter diving event, compiling 246.90 points.

St. Ambrose will next compete in the Coe Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dec. 2-3.
