SAU swimming and diving at NAIA National Championships

Saturday, Mar. 3
Evening Finals
St. Ambrose grabbed more points during the final session. Nathan Kuszynski added a sixth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle to his Nationals resume. He touched the wall in 16:07.00. Teammate Justin Fales finished 22nd in 16:59.36.

Shraddha Sudhir claimed a 13th-place finish in the women's 1650-yard freestyle swim with a time of 18:40.27.

The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jonathan Whittle, Jason Schuler, Josh Fleming and Alec Schanz took 14th place in 3:13.28.

Morning Prelims
The SAU men's 400-yard freestyle relay team earned a spot in the consolation finals with a 12th-place finish in the prelims. Jonathan Whittle, Josh Fleming, Jason Schuler and Alec Schanz finished in a time of 3:13.13.

The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Shraddha Sudhir, Maddie Seutter, Shelby Thede and Mallory Krpan combined for a time of 3:54.46 to finish 22nd.

David Hall narrowly missed a spot in the finals, finishing 17th in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.84. The Bees had three individuals compete in the men's 100-yard freestyle. Whittle finished 22nd in 47.42 seconds, Fleming was 35th in 48.09 seconds and Schuler placed 48th in 49.26 seconds.

Friday, Mar. 2
Evening Finals
Andrea Adam won her second National Title, winning the women's 3-meter diving event with a score of 225.85 in the finals. Taylor Madison held on to second place, outscoring the third-place diver 184.75-184.55. It was the second National runner-up finish for Madison, both coming behind Adam.

The SAU men also added points in two events. Nathan Kuszynski, who finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle Thursday, added a ninth-place effort in the 400-yard individual medley. He touched the wall first in his consolation final in a time of 4:07.21. The 200-yard medley relay team of David Hall, Mitch Berendes, Jason Schuler and Jonathan Whittle were 13th in 1:38.94.

Morning Prelims
St. Ambrose advanced an individual and a relay into the evening's consolation finals. Nathan Kuszynski narrowly missed a spot in the championship finals, placing ninth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:09.18. The 200-yard medley relay team of David Hall, Mitch Berendes, Jason Schuler and Jonathan Whittle finished 15th in 1:40.20.

Shraddha Sudhir took 21st place in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:55.83. Josh Fleming (52.79) and David Hall (55.08) finished 27th overall in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, respectively. Justin Fales was 30th in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:47.38.

The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Maddie Seutter, Kyndel McCloy, Sudhir and Laura Williams finished in 2:01.68, good for 26th place.

Thursday, Mar. 1
Evening Finals
The Bees crowned their first swimming and diving National Champion as Andrea Adam won the women's one-meter diving event with a score of 230.00. Teammate Taylor Madison finished as the National runner-up with a score of 207.50 (photo on left). The duo combined for 37 team points for the Bees.

Nathan Kuszynski placed eighth in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle (photo on right). He finished the race in a time of 4:37.30 to earn 11 points for St. Ambrose.

Two men's relays also competed Thursday night. Mitch Berendes, Josh Fleming, Jason Schuler and Jonathan Whittle finished 13th in the 200-yard freestyle relay, touching the wall in 1:27.17. David Hall, Berendes, Fleming and Whittle also added a 14th-place showing in the 400-yard medley relay with a finals time of 3:36.68.

Morning Prelims
Nathan Kuszynski was the story of the morning for the Bees as he qualified for the finals in the 500-yard freestyle. His time of 4:36.53 in the preliminaries was good for eighth place overall and will advance him to the evening's finals.

Two men's relay teams advanced to the consolation finals with strong efforts. Mitch Berendes, Josh Fleming, Jason Schuler and Jonathan Whittle placed 11th in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:26.95. David Hall, Berendes, Fleming and Whittle were 14th in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:37.41.

Other Bees came up short of advancing to the finals in their events. Justin Fales was 22nd in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.39; and Whittle (29th in 21.68 seconds), Fleming (33rd in 21.79) and Berendes (46th in 22.58) competed in the 50-yard freestyle.

For the women, Shraddha Sudhir was 29th in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:18.22 and Mallory Krpan was 53rd in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.97 seconds.

Andrea Adam, Krpan, Laura Williams and Shelby Thede combined for a time of 1:46.11 to place 22nd in the 200-yard freestyle relay. And Maddie Seutter, Kyndel McCloy, Sudhir and Krpan finished 24th in the 400-yard medley relay in 4:26.19.

Wednesday, Feb. 28
In the only event of the day, the St. Ambrose men placed 13th and the women were 23rd in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Nathan Kuszynski, Jonathan Whittle, Justin Fales and Noah Hoogestraat combined for a time of 7:16.88 to earn eight team points for the Bees. The women's relay consisted of Shraddha Sudhir, Shelby Thede, Mallory Krpan and Kelsey Sullivan and finished in a time of 8:53.64..
