St. Ambrose takes dual from Lincoln College

In their first road dual of the season Friday night, the St. Ambrose men's and women's swimming & diving teams defeated Lincoln College. The men won 205-75 while the women pulled out a 126-114 victory.

Nathan Kuszynski won three individual events to lead the men's team. He took the 1650-yard freestyle event in a time of 18:26.89 while teammate Sam Sutter finished second in 18:38.59. Kuszynski also won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.87 and the 400-yard individual medley in 4:29.05. Matt Kemp was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:52.73 and Kuszynski led a 1-2-3 effort for the Bees in the 400-yard IM as Victor Del Rio Foces was second in 4:41.82 and Carmelo Patti was third in 4:52.43.

Kevin Krupitzer won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. He touched the wall in 59.30 in the 100 and 2:16.33 in the 200. Patti was runner-up in both races.

Justin Fales also won a pair of events. He took the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:16.97 and also won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.96. Ryan Warrick was second in the 200 free in 1:58.86 and later won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.14. Reece Powell (52.06) and Keagan Dolphin (53.60) finished second and third.

Del Rio Foces edged teammate David Hall in the 100-yard backstroke and Jason Schuler won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.08 seconds.

The Bees also finished first-second in both relays. Del Rio Foces, Krupitzer, Schuler and Warrick won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:40.63 while Hall, Patti, Josh Fleming and Powell took second. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Fales, Warrick, Sutter and Kuszynski won in a time of 7:40.63. Krupitzer, Hall, Powell and Zac Robinson finished second.

The women's depth helped them prevail for their first dual victory of the year.

Catie Schimmelpfenning and Bethany Anderson each won a pair of individual events. Schimmelpfenning won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.78 and the 100 free in 57.15 seconds, while Anderson touched first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.87 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:54.40.

The two were also part of the victorious 800-yard freestyle relay team. They teamed with Dani Crum and Kelly Baughman to win in a time of 8:46.80.

Baughman was the champion of the 100-yard butterfly, recording a time of 1:06.10, while Adyson McKinney took one of her two runner-up finishes in the event in 1:10.80. McKinney also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke and took third in the 200-yard freestyle.

SAU also finished 1-2 in the two diving events. Andrea Adam won the 1-meter event with a score of 231.25 and the 3-meter with a 224.05. Taylor Madison finished second in both events.

St. Ambrose received points up and down the roster. Crum took second and third in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, respectively. Mallory Krpan placed second in the 50-yard freestyle. Grace Johanns was third in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. Shelby Thede (500-yard freestyle) and Laura Williams (100-yard breaststroke) also had third-place efforts.

The Bees will now return home to host Illinois Tech next Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Davenport Central pool.
