NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships

Saturday update: Nathan Kuszynski capped his Championships with another All-American performance. He took eighth place in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:15.92. Justin Fales finished 19th in the event.

The St. Ambrose men also earned points in three other events Saturday. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Carmelo Patti, Ryan Warrick, Reece Powell and Victor Del Rio Foces took 12th place with their finishing time of 3:08.90. Kevin Krupitzer was 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.52. Del Rio Foces added a 14th-place effort in the 100-yard freestyle with his time of 46.68 seconds.

Those points helped the Bees finish 14th. The women also finished 14th. They earned points Saturday behind their 400-yard freestyle relay team. Bethany Anderson, Dani Crum, Maria Quilty and Catie Schimmelpfenning came in at 3:44.08, good for 16th place.

Friday afternoon update: A school record starting Friday's afternoon session. Quincy Walker, Kevin Krupitzer, Carmelo Patti and Reece Powell combined for a school-record time of 1:35.11 in the 200-yard medley relay B Finals. That was good for 12th place.

Nathan Kuszynski earned more points for the Bees by taking 14th place in the 400-yard individual medley. His time was 4:08.59.

Kevin Krupitzer grabbed a top-10 finish by placing 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke. He had a finishing time of 57.15 seconds.

Andrea Adam and Taylor Madison ended the evening by finishing 1-2 in the women's 3-meter diving event. It is the second 3-meter national title for Andrea, and her fourth overall national crown. She has also won the 1-meter event each of the last two years. Madison finished second for her fourth individual runner-up finish.

Friday morning update: The 200-yard medley relay team of Quincy Walker, Kevin Krupitzer, Carmelo Patti and Reece Powell advanced to the B Finals after taking 11th in prelims with a time of 1:35.43. The women's team wasn't as fortunate. Dani Crum, Kelly Baughman, Bethany Anderson and Maria Quilty were 17th, missing the B Finals by .01 of a second.

Nathan Kuszynski will also advance to the B Finals as he qualified in the 400-yard individual medley. His time of 4:10.15, more than seven seconds faster than his seed time, was good for 14th place.

Kevin Krupitzer took 14th in the prelims of the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.12 seconds to advance to Friday's B Finals.

Thursday afternoon update: Andrea Adam became a three-time National Champion by claiming her second 1-meter diving title. She finished with a score of 234.20 to edge Taylor Madison, who finished runner-up in the event for the second straight year. The two will look to defend their first- and second-place national finishes in the 3-meter diving competition Friday.

Nathan Kuszynski became a two-time All-American in the 500-yard freestyle. He finished seventh in a time of 4:38.35, improving on his eighth-place finish from a year ago.

Adam also helped the women's 200-yard freestyle relay team earn All-American recognition. Adam, Catie Schimmelpfenning, Dani Crum and Maria Quilty took eighth place in 1:40.18.

Thursday morning update: The Bees started Thursday with more strong performances in the relays. The women qualified for Thursday night's A Finals by finishing eighth in the prelims of the 200-yard freestyle relay. The women finished 22nd at Nationals in the same event last season. The men are heading to the B Finals after their 11th-place effort.

After an eighth-place finish in 2018, Nathan Kuszynski is back in the A Finals of the 500-yard freestyle. He finished eighth in prelims with a time of 4:38.73. Teammate Justin Fales was 27th in 4:51.17.

Wednesday update: The St. Ambrose men's 800-yard freestyle relay team got the Bees on the scoreboard with a 12th-place finish. Nathan Kuszynski, Ryan Warrick, Victor Del Rio Foces and Justin Fales touched in a time of 7:02.59 to earn to earn 10 points. The women just missed out on scoring as Catie Schimmelpfenning, Maria Quilty, Bethany Anderson and Kelly Baughman finished 17th in a time of 8:19.39.

In just its second year of existence, the St. Ambrose swimming and diving team is sending 19 individuals to the 2019 NAIA National Championships this week in Columbus, Ga.

The Bees are hoping to build on last season's performance when the men finished 13th and the women were 15th.

Leading the way for the St. Ambrose women are Andrea Adam and Taylor Madison. Adam, the reigning NAIA Women's Diver of the Year, is back to defend her national championships in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. Madison was runner-up in both events.

On the men's side, Nathan Kuszynski is looking to build on a pair of All-American performances from a year ago. He finished fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle. Kuszynski also scored in the 400-yard individual medley, with a ninth-place performance in 2018.
