Werrett selected to represent Zimbabwe at World Championships

Cory Werrett, who recently completed his sophomore year at St. Ambrose, was selected to represent his home country of Zimbabwe at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

Werrett, the SAU school record-holder in four events, will swim the 100-meter freestyle and breaststroke at the Championships that run July 11-Aug. 3.

"I'm really excited to participate in such a big meet, and being surrounded by the world's greatest swimmers and getting to watch them," Werrett said. "But above all, I'm thankful for the opportunity, and can only thank God for such an opportunity as well as Zimbabwe Swimming and everyone involved in getting me to the Championships."

The 22nd edition of the World Aquatics Championships will feature more than 2500 athletes representing World Aquatics' 210 national member federations across six aquatic sports: swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving. The swimming events are scheduled to be competed July 26-Aug. 3.

Werrett hold St. Ambrose school records in the 50-yard freestyle (20.05), 100-yard freestyle (44.16), 50-yard breaststroke (25.65) and 100-yard breaststroke (55.10). He earned all-American accolades in three different events at the 2025 NAIA Championships, placing fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle.
